More About Us |
|
The Vision The KidCare America program is an afterschool center in our local First Assembly of God church that opens the doors from 3-6 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, for elementary school kids during an at-risk time of day–after school–at no cost to parents. The KidCare Center is a place where godly people invest in the lives of children. Where Spirit-filled mentors partner with parents, teachers, counselors and social service workers with the goal of nurturing and mentoring kids to reach their full potential. The mission of KidCare America, through the local KidCare Center for Child and Youth Development is to raise up a new generation of leaders from the kids in our community. |

What Happens At The KidCare Center Snack Time: Each afternoon a snack is provided for students when they arrive. This is an informal time for the staff and volunteers to sit with the kids and talk about their day. Recreation: Each day the kids participate in some form of recreation. On most occasions this activity is a learning-game and is tied to the theme of the month. Students are able to relax, have fun, and still tie in their recreation to what they are learning about. Growth Groups: Bible Club, Practical Living and Read-Aloud are rotated through the week. 1) Bible Club–Bible Club takes place one day each week. Our experiential and interactive Bible Club is used to teach character development and Biblical morals. 2) Read-Aloud–This is a time when the kids can relax and hear a good story. Stories are what make up our life and they are used to inspire and teach. Classic stories are taken from William J. Bennett's The Book of Virtues, and they provide topics for group discussion. 3) Practical Living–A time in which various life skills are taught. This gives students time for hands-on learning in the area of practical skills, such as making a budget, growing a plant, personal hygiene, and eating healthy. Homework Help: Each afternoon the kids will bring their homework from school and it is during this time that the staff and volunteers help them complete their current assignments. Homework is checked for accuracy and completeness. Tutoring: Tutoring takes place each day and is a time to do assessments and to work on the areas in which the child needs the most academic help. Family Time: Each day's session ends with gathering together for Family Time. This is a time for announcements and a short, fast-paced activity to send the staff, youth, and volunteers from the Center on a positive note. |
| KidCare Store The students can earn KidCare Bucks for various positive behaviors and completed tasks. Each month the Center opens the KidCare Store where they can purchase new toys, books, clothes and various age-appropriate items with their KidCare Dollars. This teaches the important concept of managing money through the KidCare Bank, as well as giving them an incentive to work hard. |
